Home remedies to get rid of ants

  • Chalk.

Chalk is an effective way to get rid of ants. The calcium carbonate in chalks helps mask the scent of ant trails which causes them to scatter in different directions. To prevent ants, scatter some chalk powder or draw lines with chalk at the house’s entry points or wherever you see trails of ants. If you have kids or pets, make sure they do not erase these lines.

  • Glass cleaner and liquid detergent.

Ants leave a trail of scent, which acts as a map for them and helps them recognize their paths. Removal of this scent can confuse the ants and prevent them from reentering your home. Mix glass cleaning spray with some liquid detergent and pour into a spray bottle. Spray this solution on the entry points or around their trails. Then, wipe the liquid leaving a little residue behind. If you do not have a glass cleaner, you can use any soap water.

  • Vinegar.

Ants strongly dislike the smell of vinegar, and it also removes the trail of scent left by ants. Create a 50% water and 50% vinegar mixture and put it into a spray bottle. Spray this liquid on countertops, cupboards, or any other places where you spot ants in your house. Repeat this process throughout the day.

  • Lemons.

Another smell that ants do not like is the smell of lemons. Ants will try to avoid the areas where there is a presence of lemons. Squeeze lemon juice at the entry points of your house or where you see ants running around. Sour and bitter things are hated by ants, whereas they love sugar. Therefore, you need to keep these things in mind when dealing with ants.

Ants are incredibly intelligent creatures, and dealing with them without expert help can be tiring. A licensed professional can identify the ant species, recognize entry points, and determine an effective treatment.
